Koryzno, Ryan Make Up Class of 2008 for State University Council for University Advancement Hall of Fame

Peter Koryzno, the director of public relations at SUNY Cortland, and Dr. Bruce Ryan, the dean of external relations at Tompkins Cortland Community College, recently were inducted into the Hall of Fame for the State University of New York Council for University Advancement (SUNYCUAD).

Koryzno and Ryan were the two inductees honored at the organization’s annual conference, held June 11-13 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. 

SUNYCUAD is the professional development organization for those working in advancement throughout the SUNY system. More than 800 SUNYCUAD members come from across the 64 state university campuses and from SUNY System Administration in fields ranging from public relations, alumni relations, publications, to electronic communications, development, government relations and marketing.

The Hall of Fame was established in 2003 to honor individuals who have made substantial contributions to SUNYCUAD, their home institutions and the State University.

Koryzno, president of the SUNYCUAD Board of Directors from 2005 to 2007, has been employed at Cortland since 1981. He has served as sports information director, news service director and, since 1992, as director of public relations. Prior to serving as president of the SUNYCUAD board, he served as vice president and was public relations track representative. As a member of the SUNYCUAD board, he was instrumental in the creation of the Hall of Fame to which he now belongs.

In 2003, Koryzno was the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, which is one of the highest honors the State University bestows on a staff member. A native of Michigan, he received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marquette University.

Ryan has been at Tompkins Cortland Community College since 1989 and has served in several progressively responsible positions in the communications department at the college. He was appointed dean of external relations in 2007.

An active member of the SUNYCUAD Board of Directors since 2003, he has organized annual professional workshops for SUNYCUAD members in media training, integrated marketing and crisis communication. Ryan also has been the recipient of numerous honors from the SUNYCUAD Awards of Excellence program, which honors outstanding work in the fields of publication, advertising, marketing, development and electronic communications.

A native of Rochester, he has a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College, a master’s degree from Syracuse University and he recently completed a doctorate in leadership in higher education from Capella University.

Koryzno and Ryan join 56 other current and former advancement professionals from across the State University system who have been honored as members of the SUNYCUAD Hall of Fame. A plaque bearing the names of all Hall of Fame members is located in the SUNY System Administration Building in Albany.
