THE PROGRAM

The Harry and Barb Charlton Newcomer Scholarship Program offers up to five registrations and on-site expenses scholarships for the SUNYCUAD Annual Educational Conference to newcomers in a SUNY institutional advancement office.

ELIGIBILITY

This program is designed to offer professional development opportunities to new advancement professionals employed at SUNY institutions. Specifically, eligible applicants include: (1) professionals who have been in their professional field less than three years total, and (2) professionals who have changed from one discipline to another within the last three years. (For example, this means moving from publications to alumni work or from community relations to fundraising. It does not mean moving from one type of work to another in the same discipline, i.e. annual fund to major gifts.)

APPLY

To apply for the scholarship, write a compelling essay, no longer than a page and a half, on why you should receive a Charlton Newcomer Scholarship. Minimally, please address the following within the essay:

  • Steps you have taken to advance your professional development.
  • Value you would derive from the educational conference.
  • Value your campus would derive from your participation in the educational conference.

Include a cover page for your essay that includes:

  • Your name
  • Your professional title
  • Your campus
  • Your phone, fax and e-mail address
  • Your immediate supervisor's name, title and e-mail address

Send the cover page, essay and a resume to the selection committee to arrive before the deadline.
