Two Inducted into SUNYCUAD Hall of Fame
Peter D. Koryzno, director of public relations at SUNY College at Cortland and past president of SUNYCUAD, and Bruce Ryan, dean of external relations at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3), were inducted into the SUNYCUAD Hall of Fame during the educational conference in New York City on Wednesday, June 11.
At Cortland since 1981, Koryzno was sports information director, news service director and, since 1996, the public relations director.
“The hundreds of professionals who work in institutional advancement positions throughout SUNY are, in my estimation, among some of the most talented in higher education anywhere in the United States. When you add in the legendary figures who lent their energies and creativity to the State University in its first half-century, you are now talking about an exceptional group of individuals,” Koryzno said. “To be included among their Hall of Fame ranks is a humbling experience for me.
In 2003 he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service. In 1996 Koryzno received the Irving T. Marsh Award from the ECAC Sports Information Directors for career accomplishments. The same year, he was the youngest-ever honorary member inducted into the SUNY Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame.
As a SUNYCUAD board member, Koryzno co-created the Hall of Fame in 2003 for the organization’s 50th anniversary. He served as vice president from 2003 to 2005 and as president from 2005 to 2007, when he presided over SUNYCUAD’s two largest conferences. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Marquette University and did his graduate work at LSU.
Ryan has been at TC3 since 1989, serving as advertising and publications editor, director of advertising and publications, director of college relations, and associate dean of external programs and communication since 2006. In June 2008 he was appointed dean of external relations.
“For me, it’s an honor to be recognized by my peers for making a difference and for a job well done,” said Ryan. “I’ve been blessed to work with outstanding colleagues, both on the SUNYCUAD board, from SUNY, and here at TC3.”
A member of the SUNYCUAD board since 2003, he has organized professional development workshops in media training, integrated marketing, and crisis communications. He has also been on board subcommittees for logo redesign,Web redesign, and publicity coordination. He has won nine SUNYCUAD awards for excellence, including six “Best of Category” honors.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and a master’s degree from Syracuse University. Ryan completed his doctorate in leadership in higher education at Capella University in December 2007.
